Dr Rossana Deplano's new book, 'Empirical and Theoretical Perspectives on International Law: How States Use the UN General Assembly to Create International Obligations' (Cambridge 2022)

The ESIL IG on Peace and Security, together with the Centre for European Law and Internationalisation at the University of Leicester, invite you to join a discussion with Dr Niccolò Ridi (KCL) and Dr Rossana Deplano (Leicester) on the themes raised by Dr Deplano's new book, 'Empirical and Theoretical Perspectives on International Law: How States Use the UN General Assembly to Create International Obligations' (Cambridge 2022). Her work examines the manner by which UN General Assembly resolutions obtain a legal quality through domestic law, international practice and the work of the UN General Assembly. Dr Ridi and Dr Deplano will discuss the key arguments in the work, exploring how the resolutions acquire legal significance.

ESIL ANNUAL CONFERENCE UTRECHT
IGPS WORKSHOP

The 17th Annual Conference of the European Society of International Law (ESIL) will be held in Utrecht, Netherlands from Thursday 1 September to Saturday 3 September 2022. 

​

The overall theme of the conference is  â€˜In/Ex-clusiveness of International Law’. The conference website is available here

It will be preceded by a workshop of the

Interest Group on Peace and Security (IGPS) on Wednesday 31 August 2022.

ESIL ANNUAL CONFERENCE STOCKHOLM
IGPS WORKSHOP

The 16th Annual Conference of the European Society of International Law (ESIL)
will be held in Stockholm, Sweden from Thursday 9 September to Saturday 11
September 2021. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘Changes in international
lawmaking: actors, processes, impact.’ It will be preceded by a workshop of the
Interest Group on Peace and Security (IGPS) on Wednesday 8 September.

PARTNERED OPERATIONS AND INTERNATIONAL LAW AT SAPIENZA UNIVERSITY, ROMA, THURSDAY 24 SEPTEMBER 2021

On Thursday 24 September 2021, the ASIL Lieber Society on the Law of Armed Conflict and the ESIL Interest Group on Peace and Security will run a joint event on 'Partnered Operations and International Law.' The workshop will be held in person with up to 80 participants at Sapienza University, and can also be followed online.

2021 ESIL RESEARCH FORUM,UNIVERSITY OF CATANIA: ‘SOLIDARITY: THE QUEST FOR FOUNDING UTOPIAS OF INTERNATIONAL LAW’ - IGPS SIDE EVENT

Dr Ka Lok Yip's new book, 'The Use of Force against Individuals in War under International Law: A Social Ontological Approach' (OUP 2022)

The ESIL Interest Group on Peace and Security invite you to join Dr Ka Lok Yip in discussion with Dr Noelle Quenivet and Dr Salvador Santino Regilme on the themes raised by her new monograph, 'The Use of Force against Individuals in War under International Law - A Social Ontological Approach' (OUP 2022). The text undertakes an interdisciplinary study of the different laws applicable in war, noting the limitations of legal techniques that seek to address these tensions and proposing a new approach that understands the law by reference to social ontology.

This event is co-hosted with the College of Law, Hamad Bin Khalifa University.

IG ON PEACE AND SECURITY WORKSHOP AT 2023 ESIL RESEARCH FORUM IN TARTU

The ESIL interest group on Peace and Security is organising a workshop on Monday 24 April 2023 on the occasion of the 2023 ESIL Research Forum to be hosted by the School of Law of the University of Tartu (Estonia). The workshop will address the topic: “The Changing Perceptions of the Use of Force in the Contemporary World“.

The event will take place as an online event. Further details will follow in due course.

​

The call for papers is now available. The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 28 February 2023 (CET).

​

The call is aimed at early-career scholars.
